Why Green Smoothies?

Greens are a powerhouse of nutrition. Dark, leafy greens (spinach, romaine lettuce, kale, Swiss chard) contain a host of vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants such as, Calcium, folate, potassium, iron, B-vitamins, Vitamin A, C, E, and K,

You may be wondering, “What is an O3 Green Smoothie or an O3 Banana Shake”? O3 stands for “Omega-3’s”. What are Omega 3’s and why are they important for you?

Omega-3 and omega-6’s are essential fatty acids, which means the body cannot make them, they must be obtained from food and diet. For most of human history, these fatty acids were present in the diet in roughly equal amounts. However, the modern day, standard American diet now provides an overabundance of omega-6 fatty acids (think, inflammation), mostly from refined vegetable oils (soy/corn) that are used in fried food as well as processed snack foods, cookies and crackers. Omega-3s, conversely, are now relatively rare in American diets, (think, anti-inflammatory). The result is an imbalance of these essential fats that drives inflammation and promotes numerous inflammatory based disorders and diseases. These may include heart attack, stroke, many forms of cancer, auto-immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and a host of auto-immune issues.

This brings us to our O3 Green Smoothie and O3 Banana Shake. We are committed to bringing back that Omega-3 and Omega-6 balance in our meal plans. We strive for better nutrition for overall better HEALTH and WELLBEING. Reducing inflammation is one key factor. Not everyone eats fatty fish (salmon, herring, sardines, and tuna). We have made sure that with adding walnuts and flax meal to our smoothies (in addition to the abundant greens that are already amazing for you), this will encourage that increase of Omega-3’s in the diet and long term, health benefits. Enjoy those O3 additions more now, with a better understanding of how we sincerely work to create meals and snacks with your long term health in mind. Drink up!
